The Road Less Traveled
Dr. William Hamilton, Superintendent of Walled Lake Consolidated Schools, was recently awarded by e-School News the “Tech Savvy Superintendent” Award. Dr. Hamilton and his staff will discuss how they have built technology into all of their departments. Topics that will be shared include district and building-level administra­tive leadership, technology staff development, teaching and learning in technology-rich classrooms, and assessment of student technology skills.

LearnPort: Michigan Virtual University®
David Myers will discuss MVU®’s work with various education organizations on Rapid e-learning development, and the effort involved in creating an online version of a traditional face-to-face course. Learn how educators can access this information for professional development.

Apple Learning InterChange (ALI)
The Apple Learning Interchange (ALI) is a social network for educators. It includes a wealth of content ranging from simple lesson ideas to in-depth curriculum units for K-12 educators as well as a new channel for Higher Education faculty showcasing campus projects, research and more. Information about ALI will be shared, as well as how to access and use this resource within districts.

A Small District with a Big Idea! Innovation Through Technology: At a District, Instructional, and Student Level
Dr. Randy Davis will set the stage on why this small district took a path less traveled for technology in the classroom. The technology director will discuss how the Novell Suse Linux computers were chosen to operate in Open Source across the district and the resources that were used to accomplish this feat. The middle school teacher for technology will share her evolution with curriculum and instruction for 7th and 8th graders; and some of her students will demonstrate their Web page designs accom­plished through Open Source technology. Challenges and opportunities for the future will be discussed.

Digging for Gold – Sustainability for Education Technology
Ric has worked in over 500 school districts in Michigan, helping them revamp to be more robust and cost effective. Learn about free digital resources available to all Michigan schools. Presenters will demonstrate and answer questions on the new Michigan Educator Resources (MER) Database, the State of Michigan CareerForward course and the Verizon-supported Thinkfinity site, a portal that will be offering thousands of free resources to the state through the MER portal.
