2010 GES Summit Announcements

Paul Vallas announcement - 3-22-10

We are thrilled to announce that Paul Vallas has accepted our invitation to be a keynote speaker at this year’s Summit. Perhaps the most prominent big-city superintendent in the nation, Vallas is widely credited with having turned around the Chicago school system. He now heads the Louisiana Recovery School District, a special school district administered by the Louisiana Department of Education and designed to take underperforming schools and transform them into successful places for children to learn.

We appreciate that Mr. Vallas will make the trip to Michigan and know that the Summit’s theme, The Foundation for Success through Education Reform, will connect perfectly with the amazing work he is doing in Louisiana.

Superintendent Flanagan - 3-25-10

On the heels of our announcement earlier this week that Paul Vallas, superintendent of the Louisiana Recovery School District, will keynote this year’s Governor’s Education SummitTM, we are excited to announce today that Michigan’s Superintendent of Public Instruction, Mike Flanagan, will also address attendees and that a general session panel of Michigan Department of Education officials will discuss recently enacted education reform legislation and take questions from the audience.

Supt. Flanagan has always made it a priority to participate in this event, and we are appreciative that he will do so again this year, especially with so much that has recently happened with efforts to reform education in Michigan and across the country.

The Governor’s Education Summit agenda runs from 8:30 am to 3 pm. The morning general session will highlight Superintendent Flanagan’s remarks, the panel discussion mentioned above and questions from the audience. Superintendent Vallas will be our keynote speaker following lunch. Breakout sessions will highlight education reforms in the areas of early childhood, technology, college access, ReImagine, and topics related to the recently enacted education reform legislation. The afternoon will conclude in general session with our closing remarks.

We hope you will take join Superintendents Vallas and Flanagan for this year’s Governor’s Education Summit.
