The mission of the Michigan Foundation for Education Leadership™ is to ensure effective leadership in education.

Our Vision

MFEL will be recognized and utilized as the premiere Michigan organization working to ensure the development of effective leadership in education.

Goals

MFEL is committed to developing an active corps of informed local citizens (principally parents, but also representatives from business, government, and other civic and religious organizations) who have a working knowledge of how their schools operate so they can engage their local school officials (teachers, principals, administrators) as equal partners and develop action plans to achieve that vision and who will then hold themselves and their local school officials mutually accountable for the achievement of that vision for all their students. Communities with the schools that have been identified as needing the most assistance with improving student achievement are our focus.
Rationale

The key elements that have an impact on student achievement are:

• Empowered quality teachers
• Strong building principals
• Supportive school boards and administrations with high expectations for all students

And, the key elements to achieving these are:

• Informed and engaged parents and guardians, and
• Informed and engaged leadership from the local community - local private sector employers, local government officials, local non-governmental community organizations, and local philanthropic organizations.
